The internationally leading company originates from the pioneering work of engineer Herbert Baumer. In 1952, he founded a small company on the premises of a former shoe factory in Frauenfeld, Switzerland to manufacture electromechanical devices; Baumer Electric AG. Baumer Electric AG achieved its strongest growth between 1980 and 1990.

In 1991, the know-how of the various individual companies was bundled and linked, and the Baumer Group was established. Today 32 production and sales subsidiaries in 14 countries belong to the Baumer Group. In total, over 1900 are employed world-wide. The headquarters of the Baumer Group is in Frauenfeld, Switzerland.
