The new generation of robust multiturn absolute encoders

Multiturn absolute encoders from Hübner Berlin, which use a new, patented method of operation that does not require a gearbox or a battery, have now been nominated for the Automation Award 2006.

No gearbox – no battery!
The present state of the art is that multiturn encoders record the turns mechanically, with a gearbox, or electronically, with the aid of a backup battery. However, both methods involve disadvantages. But there is now a newly patented process that does not require a gearbox or a battery, using instead the energy derived by a micro-generator from even the smallest rotary movements. This method is distinguished by simple construction, robustness and freedom from wear, and opens up areas of application previously excluded for absolute encoders. The encoders are available with solid or hollow shafts, and with various types of BUS interfaces. If necessary, the interface can also be implemented in a redundant version.
